Passing the Torch

Rowan is now close to her 21st birthday. Zephyr is very old for her breed, almost twelve. She penses Rowan that it’s time to find her replacement.
Putting out the call for possible photographs for the cover made me chuckle. I was clear about what I’m looking for: a character study of an old deerhound with lots of white on her face, preferably looking toward the camera. The dear people who responded didn’t pay attention to what I was asking—they simply sent pictures of their dogs that they love.
But when this photograph showed up in response, of a lovely German deerhound named Amy (Ch. Edle Emmy vom Welzerberg), I knew immediately I’d found the image for my cover. Thank you to Caroline van Zanten-Boomgaard, her owner. Amy is no longer with us, but she will live on, hopefully delighting readers everywhere.
